McCLELLAND ENDS ROHRBAUGH WIN STREAK IN TRAIL-WAY “358” SPRINTS
| Hanover, PA
(7/18/08) – When Jeff Rohrbaugh began his
four-race Trail-Way win streak, he did so by
ending Brad McClelland’s three-race win
streak. On Friday night, McClelland returned the favor. The Westminster open wheel star started seventh, assumed the lead when Nick Palmerino spun on the back stretch while leading on lap eight, and held off a determined Rohrbaugh over the final 17 laps to score his fourth win of the year at the McSherrystown oval. The win also moved McClelland past Rohrbaugh on the all-time Trail-Way win list, with a division-leading 16 career “358” sprint car wins. “It was a little dry tonight, and it was a matter of who got to the front first,” said McClelland upon exiting his B&D Truck Hoist/VMAC #6, “Once the track came to our likin’, it was fast.” Points leader and ninth-starting Rohrbaugh tried several different lines to catch McClelland between eight caution periods over the final 17 laps, but settled for second, with Mike Bittinger coming from 12th to finish third. DS Diversified Services hard charger Dale Hammaker advanced from 21st starting spot to cross fourth, with 14th-starting Joe Trone, Jr. fifth. Completing the top ten were 18th-starting Darren Schott, 20th-starting Rick Horn, Colt White, Doug Hammaker, and Amy Ott. The 14-year-old Ott, a former go-kart champ at Hunterstown Speedway, scored a top ten finish in her first-ever “358” sprint race. Billy Dietrich, who came from the rear after an early-race spin, was involved in a three-car crash on turn four of lap 24 while running fourth and retired to the pits. Heats for the 23 “358”sprint cars on hand were won by Billy Dietrich (with Danny Dietrich and Dan Dietrich second and third), McClelland, and Randy Davis, Jr. HOOSIER TIRES 358 SPRINTS Feature (20 Laps) – 1. 6-Brad McClelland; 2. 7V-Jeff Rohrbaugh; 3. 12-Mike Bittinger; 4. 66-Dale Hammaker; 5. 99-Joe Trone Jr.; 6. 55S-Darren Schott; 7. 01-Rick Horn; 8. 45-Colt White; 9. 66H-Doug Hammaker; 10. 52-Amy Ott; 11. 10-Zach Shive Euculano; 12. 64-Randy Whisler; 13. 36-Peter Bartley; 14. 8D-Billy Dietrich (DNF); 15. 11D-Mike Duncan (DNF); 16.
