ROHRBAUGH WINS
SECOND STRAIGHT IN CRASH-MARRED TRAIL-WAY 358 SPRINT
FEATURE
Hanover, PA (6/6/08) –Make
it two in-a-row for Jeff Rohrbaugh at Trail-Way
Speedway.
Even with a damaged top
wing.
The well-known bottom
feeder came from eighth-starting spot Friday night
to root polesitter Billy Heltzel Jr. off the inside
and grab the lead in turns one and two of lap six.
Though he led the rest of
the way, his run was not without its moments.
Rohrbaugh was right behind
them when Doug Hammaker, Ryan Hansen, and Peter
Bartley got together while racing for position at
the rear of the lead lap exiting turn four of lap
16. Somehow, the Roy Vincent Racing #7V drove around
the crash, but the left side panel on his top wing
was damaged. Crew members pounded the side panel
back during the red flag and Rohrbaugh was able to
continue as the leader.
Two laps earlier (lap 14),
Danny Dietrich drove around Heltzel for second. He
lined up behind Rohrbaugh and chased the Don Beard
Racing Engines/Delco Signs sprinter the rest of the
way.
“I think the wing tells it
all,” said Rohrbaugh after scoring his 13th career
Trail-Way win, second on the all-time win list, “I
was right in the middle of those lapped cars. Then
the car was stumbling on the restarts. The air’s not
real good tonight.”
“Danny roughed me up a
little bit last week (at Lincoln) and passed me on
the last lap, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to let
that happen tonight,” he continued, “I hope Brad and
Neal are both okay.”
Both Brad McClelland and
Neal Amspacher were involved in nasty one-car flips
during the event. McClelland rolled over and landed
upside down in turns one and two of lap four. He was
checked out by emergency crews in the pits.
Amspacher flipped violently in turns three and four
of lap 24, and was taken to Hanover Hospital for a
precautionary check-up.
Mike Duncan completed a
fine run in third, followed by ninth-starting Billy
Dietrich and Dale Hammaker. Sixth through tenth were
14th-starting Austin Reed, Tim Wagaman, DS
Diversified Services hard charger Joe Trone, Jr.
(who started 21st), Heltzel, and Zach Eucolano.
Heats for the 22 “358”
sprint cars were won by Rohrbaugh, Mike Ressler, and
McClelland.
